Sir Isaac Newton (1642-1726) in 1702 by Godfrey Kneller (Wikipedia, Isaac Newton)
Once there lived a man, who invented the reflecting (mirror)-telescope. The name of that man was Isaac Newton (1642-1727). The most common astronomical telescope is named "Newton telescope" for its inventor, the man who created the classic theory of gravity. Then the researchers turn more and more accurate until they realized that there are no final theories. Newton thought that the universe was stable, but now we know that universe is full of movements and interactions.
We could live without Newtons' Gravity Laws and thermodynamics as well as Einstein's Special and General relativity as well as we can live without Standard models, knowledge of the black holes, Bing Bangs, dark matter, dark energy, and everything like that. But the fact is that we are researching those things because we are curious. Curiosity is the element of intelligent lifeforms. And we want to know everything about ourselves, the universe, and all other things.
But when somebody asks, "do we need theories" we might say, that person. who lived in 15th. century didn't even know that there were some other planets than Earth. Newton himself lived in the border of the 17th and 18th centuries, and that means he lived in a very special time. He was not a millennial, but during his lifetime the century changed. He was centurial. Or how we know was he millennial?

Did someone remove entire years in the early medieval time?
We
don't know what year is now because we don't know what year was in the
birth of Jesus Christ for people, who lived in that year. And because of
the dark centuries in the early Medieval time, we can think that some
years have dropped away, and some years were increased to time books.
Some
people think that removing those years happened during the 30 years war
when protestants wanted to remove their past as catholic noblemen. But
did some years removed? Or was the destruction limited in the family
trees? Or was the destruction of archives so bad as we wish to believe?
Of course, there were people, who wanted to hide their past as the loyal
servants of the pope. But how many archives those people destroyed?
But
also the leaders of the pre-Christian states wanted to remove their
past as pagan kings during the Early Medieval time. And also we don't
know what year was in Judea for people who lived in that year when Jesus
Christ was born. So the fact is that this kind of thing causes many
questions. Did Isaac Newton want to calculate that year? Or even if that
man wanted to do that thing, did he do some concrete things for that
thing?
